ESPN Ithaca 107.1FM/1160AM (WPIE) continues expansive coverage of local, regional, national and international sports including the play-by-play coverage for the New York Yankees, Syracuse Orange basketball & football, and approximately 75 local high school games per year. Simply put, ESPN Ithaca is the Lead Dog.
In addition to being the exclusive play-by-play provider of Section IV athletics in Ithaca, ESPN Ithaca’s team of reporters works diligently to establish relationships with local sports teams and report more than just the final score. From live in-game updates via social media, in-depth halftime shows and exclusive interviews with coaches and athletes, ESPN Ithaca has you covered.
We host Night of Champions, our annual awards dinner in June, celebrating nearly 60 of the area’s best varsity athletes and coaches. The event not only recognizes outstanding individual achievement, we partner with local businesses to provide $3,000 in scholarship awards to our top male and female athletes and two coaches picks. Another $4,000 in contributions is made to an assortment of area booster clubs through our “Fueling Excellence” program. Visions Federal Credit Union and Guthrie are integral partners in the entire evening including the scholarship monies.
We also feature our afternoon show Between the Lines, a fast-paced daily sports talk show that airs from 5-6 PM. The show features special guests from around the area, discusses local sports stories, and provides perspective on games and events. ESPN Ithaca’s reporters produce daily SportsCenter Updates and All Access reports hourly throughout the day.
Meet ESPN Ithaca
Todd Mallinson – General Manager
Originally from Massachusetts, Todd received his BA in Communications from Curry College in Milton, MA. During his career in media and advertising sales management, Todd has lead operations in Pittsfield, MA, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA and since 1997 in the Finger Lakes Region. In 2010, he and his wife and business partner Tina Mallinson assumed ownership of ESPN Ithaca-WPIE and acquired Tompkins Weekly in 2016 renaming the company Vizella Media that same year. “We love it here. The diversity, the beauty, the tastes; we live in an area that people come to vacation in, how good is that?”, says Todd. He enjoys running, tennis, and golf along with time with family and friends on Cayuga Lake. Todd is a member of Tompkins Chamber of Commerce for which he has served as long-time board member, he is also a member of Trumansburg Area Chamber of Commerce where he has also served as a board member. Todd also serves on the American Cancer Society’s Coaches & Community v. Cancer Game Changing Gala Committee.
Nick Karski – Operations Manager/Host of Between the Lines/Play-by-Play
An Elmira native and Ithaca College alum, Nick is a six-time New York State Broadcasters Association Award winner at ESPN Ithaca. You can hear him every weekday on “Between the Lines” from 5-6pm as he breaks down everything local and everything fun about sports. He is a play-by-play voice of Section IV athletics and hosts Gameday, a fast-paced hour of local college and high school football talk. He also anchors SportsCenter Updates and All Access reports. In some of his spare time, Nick enjoys watching his beloved Buffalo Bills, roots for the New York Yankees and has been to more concerts than he can count.
Dan Doherty – Play-by-Play/Reporter/Anchor
Originally from Long Island, Dan received a BS from Ithaca College in 2017 and is currently a lead play-by-play broadcaster and reporter for ESPN Ithaca. Prior to returning to Ithaca, Dan spent two summers with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball as the Media Relations and Broadcasting Assistant and the Public Address Announcer. In addition to his role at ESPN Ithaca, Dan is currently the Senior Editor of Cageside Press, a growing mixed martial arts website. He also contributes to Tompkins Weekly, keeping readers up to date of the local collegiate and high school happenings in the area. When he’s not working, Dan is either watching any baseball game, or the New York Islanders.
Audrey Warner – Project Manager
Audrey, hailing from Western New York, holds a BA in Documentary Studies and Production from Ithaca College. Her most recent film, “Queen of the Dinosaurs: A Wrestler’s Story” premiered in London, U.K., won the Director’s Guild of America’s Best Woman Student Filmmaker Award and received the Audience Award at NFFTY. Audrey is currently the layout editor for The Booster News, a monthly publication in Angelica, New York, and can be found hiking, reading, baking and snowboarding in her free time.
Tyler Peacock – Business Development Manager
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Tyler graduated from Kent State in 2015. Starting out in hospitality management and sales, he remained in Northeast Ohio until the spring of 2021. After moving to the Ithaca area, he joined Vizella Media as a Business Development Manager. His role comprises new business development, helping clients grow and community outreach. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family on Cayuga Lake and hiking with his dogs. He also is an avid Cleveland sports fan and a seasoned high school wrestling coach.
Jackie Freeland Britt – Project Manager
Having lived in several different parts of the country including California, Georgia, Kansas, and Pennsylvania, Jaclyn finally settled in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York state. After receiving her B.A in Psychology from Wells College, Jackie signed a one-year service contract joining AmeriCorps, P.A.C.C. VISTA (Pennsylvania Campus Compact: Volunteer in Service to America). After a year of service, she then went on to complete her M.S. in Communications at Ithaca College a semester early in December of 2008. Jaclyn began her career in higher education administration in admissions at her undergraduate alma mater, Wells College. While in The Office of Admissions, she managed several different responsibilities beyond student recruitment including the development of communication initiatives and marketing strategies. She later moved on to become the Associate Director, Marketing at Keuka College. After almost a decade in higher education administration, she stepped away from that career path to focus on her family. In her free time, Jackie enjoys art, the outdoors, golf, and both national and international travel, boasting over 15 different countries and over 40 states. Her 5-year-old son, Thomas, is Jackie’s most amazing accomplishment and, of course, her most favorite person.
Benn Bartishevich – Business Development Manager
Benn Bartishevich, a native of Ithaca, earned his degree in Integrated Marketing and Communications from Ithaca College. Benn has expertise in the specialty beverage industry as a sales director, developing a deep understanding and appreciation of the needs of businesses in the community. Benn has also spent a considerable amount of time in recording studios both as a musician and voiceover talent. When he’s not working, Benn enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, writing and recording music, and spending time with friends and family.
