On June 6, the Friends of Newman Golf Course held its annual Adult/Youth event at Newman Municipal Golf Course in Ithaca. In total, 19 children aged seven to 11 took part. The event consists of nine holes of golf, a putting contest, and a post-round lunch.

The Adult/Youth event has been held since 2013, originally initiated and sponsored by the Tompkins County Coalition for Healthy Youth. The goal is to provide the younger generation with a positive and healthy experience out on the course and teach them the dynamics and values of playing golf. In 2015, the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) joined in by adding it to their after-school sports program by adding four hours of lessons prior to the event. 15 GIAC children played and were joined by four other pairs.

The event would not have been possible without the support of a countless number of people and sponsors. It was primarily staffed by GIAC and members of the Senior League, led by Dave Warden. The sponsors were Bangs Ambulance, BOCES, BumbleBee Painters, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Elks Lodge, Fall Creek House, Finger Lakes Financial Group, Purity Ice Cream, Shortstop Deli, Trade Design Build, Tompkins County Youth Services Department, True Insurance, and Wegmans.
